Affirmative Consent: An Oral History of Antioch College’s Sexual Offense Prevention Policy

Affirmative Consent is a narrative history and distillation of eight interviews collected during my time researching the history of Antioch College’s Sexual Offense Prevention Policy (SOPP). Each person interviewed had some role in the passing, implementation, or revision of the SOPP during their time at Antioch College in the years 1988-1994. Each interview is presented in a riveting, easy to read narrative format for maximum enjoyment. Surrounding these interviews are larger pictures of the world outside, with evidence of conversations of consent before the passing of the SOPP, and conversations of consent thirty years on. Through these eight interviews (these eight participants are only a fraction of the number of people involved), it becomes clear that Antioch’s SOPP changed these conversations forever, bringing affirmative consent to the frontlines and establishing a precedent that still sends shockwaves thirty years on.
